Surface Preparation and Coating Removal

Sureclean has an extensive range of the latest technology surface preparation equipment, encompassing UHP water jetting (hydro-blasting), abrasive (wet and dry) blasting and mechanical (power tools) methods.

Our equipment resource affords us the capability to undertake all sizes of projects and provide the most effective tailored solution to meet the project requirements.

Water Jetting

UHP Water Jetting/Blasting is extremely versatile and both an effective and environmentally friendly way of preparing a surface for coatings application.

Operating at up to 40,000 psi (2,750 bar), the use of UHP water jetting technology enables us to remove any coating and soluble salts, taking the substrate back to its original profile, and unlike other “traditional” surface preparation methods, ensuring the surface is completely contaminant free.

Another advantage that UHP water jetting / blasting holds over abrasive blasting is the effect on the environment. UHP water jetting excludes the use of abrasives, minimising the resultant waste stream and by introducing containment and filtration the resultant washings can be effectively reused.

Furthermore abrasive blasting creates several environmental and health and safety issues by creating dust. Consequently issues are created with the associated clean-up operations and air borne contamination arising from the operation which could affect others out with the immediate work team who may not be wearing appropriate PPE.

Typically UHP technology is used for the surface preparation of large surface areas such as tank internals and externals, bulkheads, decks, walkways and helidecks, and with no “spark” this enables UHP to be widely used in hazardous and extreme environments.

Sureclean own an extensive inventory of specialist tools and accessories powered by UHP water such has Deckblasters, hand held Aquablasters and the automated Mantaray which allows us to effectively and efficiently remove coatings with vacuum attachment ensuring containment and minimal mess. UHP Water blasting provides the cost effective solution for surface preparation in every industry sector.

Abrasive Blasting

Abrasive (Grit Blasting) involves the use of compressed air and an abrasive medium and can be used for surface preparation, to remove previously applied coatings, corrosion deposits, etc, on all types of surfaces including steel.

Blasting abrasive particles at a surface is traditionally recognised as one of the fastest and most effective form of surface preparation and coating removal, establishing a good sound-working surface to promote the adhesion of a specific type of paint or coating.

Sureclean own and operate a large inventory of equipment ranging from blast pots / kettles to specialist portable abrasive systems providing controlled surface preparation to internationally recognised standards.  The most commonly referred to standards are Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), and Swedish Standards (SA).  We also offer slurry blasting using an abrasive media in tandem with UHP water jetting utilising specialist tooling, effectively combining the power.

Mechanical Cleaning

Mechanical cleaning involving the use of compressed air operated power tools such as needle guns and sanders using abrasive discs can also be provided by Sureclean. All hand tools comply with the latest legislation and when used in compliance with “safe operating procedures” safeguards the operative.

  • Cost effective in preparing small areas for inspection.
  • Enhanced control for sensitive areas.
  • Acceptable alternative where it is not possible or practical to use abrasive blasting or UHP

Typically mechanical surface preparation is used to prepare small areas for inspection and or cosmetic repairs or where it is not possible to use either UHP water jetting or abrasive blasting.
