Case Study: UOS Explorer Supply Vessel

Location: Abu Qir Naval Port, Alexandria, Egypt

Client: BP Egypt

During a scheduled visit to the Abu Qir Naval Port, Sureclean were commissioned to carry out the removal of all mud from 6 x mud/brine tanks onboard the UOS Explorer supply vessel and subsequently clean to brine standard.

Sureclean Scope

Provide ex-pat and local manpower and equipment in order to remove all solid waste before cleaning all tank internals to brine standard utilising HP cleaning methods.

Technical Challenge

Implementing a Safe System of Work which incorporated minimal man entry to provide high standard of cleanliness.

Restrictions / Considerations

  • Hazardous Environment - Confined Space Entry Working, access and egress.
  • Implementing a safe system of work minimising man entry.
  • Waste containment and transfer.

Key Facts

  • Project completed without safety or environmental incident.
  • Involved 20 x Sureclean personnel, dayshift and nightshift working due to several mobilisations.
  • Commendations received from the client which resulted in Sureclean being awarded additional work scopes from client on several vessels.

Additional Information

The normal hazards associated with such a project were heightened by the complexity of the tank entry point. However the use of a remotely deployed, 3 dimensional cleaning head along with vacuum transfer technology enabled the project to be completed both safely and efficiently, significantly reducing the requirement for man-entry and associated risks.
