Case Study: BP Andrew Compressor Pipes Camera Inspection

Location: BP Andrew Platform, North Sea

Through the use of CCTV inspection equipment, sureclean was contracted to inspect the internals of 3 compressor pipes and subsequently removed any debris found.

Sureclean Scope

Sureclean provided the manpower and relevant equipment to carry out a camera inspection of the 1st Stage HP Compressor Pipe (12" inside diameter), 2nd Stage HP Compressor Pipe (8" inside diameter) and LP Compressor Pipes (8" inside diameter) to ensure no debris were present within the pipes before re-commissioning works take place.

Technical Challenge

The design, complexity and configuration of the system provided engineering challenges. Each pipe had a series of 90 degree bends and a number of 45 degree "S" bends with only two access points for each pipe.  Sureclean was also required to supply a camera system that could provide high quality footage and was able to travel along horizontal and vertical pipe sections.   

Restrictions / Considerations

  • Timeline - critical path project as pipes were required to be inspected urgently due to upcoming re-commissioning works
  • Conflicting works - scaffolders and pipe fitters all working simultaneously in small area
  • Complex layout of the pipes - series of 90 degree and 45 degree bends to negotiate as well as vertical and horizontal sections
  • Access points - only two access points available for each pipe
