Case Study: Borgsten Dolphin

Location: Cromarty Firth, Invergordon (UK)

Client: Dolphin Drilling Ltd

Primarily, this was a small scale project where we were required to provide the personnel and equipment to clean out a total of six tanks (ranging from mud tanks to fuel tanks) onboard the Borgsten Dolphin.  Priorities soon changed when an oil leak became a major issue within the SCR room and we were required to carry out a full clean up operation.

Sureclean scope

Primarily, this was a small scale project where we were required to provide the personnel and equipment to clean out a total of six tanks (ranging from mud tanks to fuel tanks) onboard the Borgsten Dolphin.  Priorities soon changed when an oil leak became a major issue within the SCR room and we were required to carry out a full clean up operation.

Following successful completion, Sureclean were asked to provide the manpower and equipment for the removal of all residues and cleaning of Starboard and Port pontoon tanks.  This would allow Rig  inspection and any remedial repairs to be carried out as part of their 5 yearly inspection requirement.

Scope of work

  • Removal of all residues and cleaning of all tanks with use of High Pressure water Jetting and Vacuum Transfer equipment
  • Cleaning of Chain Lockers
  • HP water jetting of Black/Grey water Drainage system
  • High Pressure Water Jetting of all Sounding Tubes
  • Complete Blasting and painting of Pontoon Potable Water Tank.(Contracted by Global)
  • Internal Cleaning of Sea-chests
  • Internal cleaning of Day fuel tanks
  • Internal HP water jetting of day water tank
  • Surveying, Camera Inspection and cleaning of the HVAC/Duct systems
  • HP water Jetting of Fairleads (Contracted By Global)

Challenges

Logisitcs associated with resourcing, planning and managing project growth, within a critical path. Manning profile grew from a single five man team and peaked at 40 personnel.

Additional Information
